Radiofrequency Ablation

Commonly referred to as a vein closure procedure, Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive technique for treating varicose veins. The treatment consists of placing a small needle into the affected vein using ultrasound guidance, and placing an FDA approved catheter (VNUS ® ClosureFAST ®) into the vein. Subsequently, radiofrequency energy delivered to the vein seals it shut (known as ablation). Once the diseased vein is closed, other healthy veins take over the task of carrying blood from the leg, thereby reestablishing normal flow.

This technique is virtually painless and following the procedure patients can resume normal activities. The VNUS® Closure® catheter was the first FDA approved device for treating patients with varicose veins. The VNUS® ClosureFAST™ is the very latest in radiofrequency ablation technology.
